2017: A Five-Point Preview

Let’s start a new tradition around here on the first Monday of the year: In addition to providing you with the Can’t-Miss Shows of the Week, as we do every Monday, let’s take a longer look at our calendar to, perhaps, some Can’t-Miss Shows of the Year.

The great thing about this list is that it, in truth, won’t even scratch the surface of the greatness to come in 2017. These are just a few things that we already know to look forward to, and we expect many, many more to be announced as the weeks progress.

[We might even be the ones making the announcements on a couple, but more on that later. ;-)]

Fri., Jan. 20 | 8 p.m.
Lauren Marsh
ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem
Admission: FREE
Description: We’ve been fans of Lauren for a long time, and we can’t wait to finally hear her soaring indie pop tunes in person later this month.

Sun., Feb. 19 | 1 p.m.
The Benefit for Scott Marshall
Venue: Maingate Nightclub, 448 N. 17th St., Allentown
Admission: $20
Description: Support the singer-songwriter as he bounces back from a trying 2016 alongside friends including The Cherrybombs, Girl Crue, Social Call, James Supra, The Aardvarks, and more.

May 3-7
Allentown JazzFest
Venue: Downtown Allentown
Admission: Variable
Description: While it is still unknown which world-class musicians will join the fun this year, announcements should be coming shortly.

Sun., July 9
Easton Heritage Day
Easton Centre Square and Riverside & Scott Parks
We had a blast at Heritage Day last year, which featured music all day on multiple stages, as well as re-enactments, food, fireworks, and fun. We expect more of the same great time this year!

Aug 4-13
Venue: Downtown Bethlehem
Admission: FREE (Except for Sands Steel Stage)
Description: You already know what this is – it’s ten days of free music, open spaces, food, beer, and happiness. If you’re a country person, the Steel Stage announcements of Toby Keith and Lee Brice & Justin Moore probably have you smiling. Many more announcements – both local and national – are surely still to come.
