WLVU: The Sound of The Underground is Live!

The day is here! Today, we proudly launch WLVU: The Sound of The Underground, Lehigh Valley Underground’s own internet radio station.

The rebranded station, formed on the heels of a strategic partnership formed by Lehigh Valley Underground and John Paul DeBard, station director of WSCI: Star City Indie Rock Radio in Bethlehem, is now highlighting music and artists from any genre 24/7, with special emphasis placed on artists from the Greater Lehigh Valley region.

“Lehigh Valley Underground is committed to supporting local music in any way possible. WLVU gives Lehigh Valley Underground a powerful asset to provide airplay opportunities to independent artists on a consistent basis,” said Gerard Longo, Founder/Editor-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Underground. “Powered by the WSCI radio engine, WLVU has the opportunity to revolutionize the way people consume independent music in our region and beyond.”

Weekly radio programming starts tonight at 8 p.m. eastern, with the WLVU premiere of Tape Swap Radio. a live music series spotlighting independent and DIY music in the Lehigh Valley. With each episode, Tape Swap founders Matt Molchany and Shamus McGroggan feature a new Shards Session, made up of a four-song live performance and interview recorded at the Bethlehem recording studio, Shards. Drawing equally from those who call the Lehigh Valley home and those passing through on tours, Tape Swap aims to provide a unique tour snapshot of the musicians who make up the Lehigh Valley’s vital and thriving DIY music scene from a range of different genres, including punk rock, psychedelic rock, metal, electronic music, anti-folk, garage rock, and more.

WLVU will also feature a live, hour-long incarnation of The Quinn Spinn, beginning this Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m. The Balcony Show, a widely-syndicated internet radio show featuring hosts Ann Thatcher and Andrew Chervak, maintains its WSCI timeslot on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. Artist and DJs who are interested in airplay on WLVU are encouraged to send mp3s of their work to submissions@wlvuradio.com.
