Meet the ‘Fest Vets: Nick Capozzolo
In addition to chatting with Musikfest rookies to get their thoughts on performing for the first time at the nation’s largest free outdoor music festival, we also wanted to catch up with those who have been there — whether as attendees, performers, or both.
Nick Capozzolo, bassist for Nazareth-based harmonic soul band, The Moondogs, has performed three times at previous Musikfests, and was one of the first to offer his thoughts on what the experience means to him.
How many years have you attended Musikfest?
Musikfest started in 1984, which is the year I was born. So basically, as far as I can remember.
What is your favorite thing about Musikfest, year after year?
Either the great music or the great food. Do I have to pick a favorite?
What are you looking forward to this year?
There are so many great bands in the lineup. I am looking forward to seeing some of my friends play, and also wandering around and checking out random acts.
Are you performing this year at Musikfest?
No, I took some time off to welcome my baby girl into the world and did not submit for 2017. However, we will be full participants in this year’s Oktoberfest event at SteelStacks.
What does the opportunity to perform at Musikfest mean to you?
Whether you are a cover or original act, nothing is more exciting than getting that confirmation that you will be in the Musikfest lineup. ArtsQuest is an amazing organization to work with, and they have some amazing sound engineers. So you go in there knowing that, not only will you be performing for thousands of people, but you are going to sound great doing it.
What would you tell someone performing at Musikfest for the first time?
Soak it in! This truly is the epitome of gigs in this region. Make the most of the opportunity, have fun, spend extra time there, make new friends and fans and, most of all, rock it!
