PHOTOS: Rocking the Valley’s Tommy Zito Benefit

On Sunday, Rocking the Valley held a benefit for the recently-hospitalized Tommy Zito, a locally renowned musician and entertainer. The event became so big that it outgrew the internet radio station’s usual haunt of the Jetport Bar & Lounge.

Fortunately, an adjacent ballroom inside of the connected Days Inn hotel was available, providing the perfect space for a packed house and an inspired evening of local music.

The benefit — which raised more than $2,500 for Zito and his wife, Jan, as the entertainer continues on his road to recovery — featured the talents of some of Zito’s closest friends and contemporaries. The final lineup included Steve Jones Band; Acoustic Blues Project; Friends of Tom Duo; the quartet of Frank Porter, Ralph Pagano, Joe Janci, and Warren Snead; Kate and Those Guys; Desire; Magnum; Daimon Price; The Swing Time Dolls; and Dana Gaynor.

Our pick for performance of the night goes to Desire, with whom Zito has collaborated frequently. The doo wop group’s performance was inspired and engaging, and highlighted in particular by the powerhouse vocals of Kristen Morganstern.

Those still looking to support the cause can do so at GoFundMe, where a crowdfunding campaign has already raised upwards of $7,500 in just nine days. Those looking to see the view through our lens can do so below.
