Lehigh Valley Underground and Pennsylvania Music Preservation Society (PAMPS) Announce Great PA Music and Arts Celebration Partnership

Lehigh Valley Underground is excited to partner with the Pennsylvania Music Preservation Society (PAMPS) on this year’s Great Pennsylvania Music and Arts Celebration (PennMArt), set to take place Memorial Day Weekend (May 26-28) at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

Lehigh Valley Underground joins the Pennsylvania German Cultural and Heritage Center at Kutztown University as a key collaborator to achieve PAMPS’ mission of “Celebrating Pennsylvania’s Music and Arts, from Historic Beginnings to Today.” On Sunday, May 27, Lehigh Valley Underground will present RockNOW!, a live music showcase highlighting modern, local performers whose work is inspired by artists from throughout Pennsylvania’s rock and roll’s extensive history and their nationwide influence on the genre. The showcase will take place inside of the Allentown Fairgrounds Agri-Plex, with a full lineup announcement to come in early April.

“PennMArt is a great opportunity for our community to come together and learn about the diverse traditions and customs that make our Commonwealth unique,” said Gerard Longo, Founder/Editor-in-Chief of Lehigh Valley Underground. “Many of these are rooted in music, and RockNOW! presented by Lehigh Valley Underground will highlight local artists who do great justice to the deep history of rock and roll, in Pennsylvania and beyond.”

Lehigh Valley Underground and PAMPS also announce that PennMArt will feature a Lehigh Valley Underground Discovery Stage from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, May 26 and Sunday, May 27. The Discovery Stage will give performers of all ages an opportunity to perform 2-3 songs in front of a team of judges, who will evaluate performances based on ability and stage presence. The grand prize winner from each afternoon will be granted the opportunity to open the PennMArt’s main stage later that evening, with the winner and runner up from each afternoon being invited back to perform as part of the Lehigh Valley Underground Discovery Showcase, taking place Monday, May 28 from 12-3 p.m. on the Fairgrounds’ Farmerama stage.

“Lehigh Valley Underground is all about providing artists with opportunities, and our Discovery Stage at PennMArt will help us to uncover emerging artists who have flown under our radar,” Longo noted. “Our team of judges will bring their immense industry experience into the fold to select winners for performance opportunities throughout the remainder of the weekend.”

Throughout the weekend, PennMArt will feature both traditional and contemporary musical performers on multiple stages, exemplifying Pennsylvania’s important contributions across rock and other musical genres. PennMArt will also feature Pennsylvania artisans, including Pennsylvania Dutch Folk & Craft artisans; performances from Alex Meixner, one of the nation’s most respected polka virtuosos; and a celebration of our nation’s military featuring Camp Crane, an onsite proving ground.
