PHOTOS: Spring on the SouthSide ChiliFest
A month full of big events — in South Bethlehem and throughout Pennsylvania — culminated with cool music, warm weather, and hot peppers.
The annual Spring on the SouthSide Chili Cook-off brought patrons out in record numbers on Saturday to enjoy chili concoctions from a total of 26 Lehigh Valley restaurants. Ultimately, the Social Still took home judges’ honors for top chili of the day, while the people’s choice went to the Bayou, who partnered with A-List Salon as their hosts for the day.
The afternoon also featured the debut of the Banko Beverage Co. beer garden on the South Bethlehem Greenway — which you’ll have available to enjoy every First Friday from now through October — accompanied by music from three Lehigh Valley performers. Attendees and passers-by enjoyed an afternoon of music, whether it was the rocking acoustic stylings of Brian Kibler, the soulful and eclectic tunes of Soul Folks, or the cool grooves and progressive jams of Mosey Beat.. as well as the emcee stylings of WLVU’s Sean Michael
The afternoon was then capped off with the event’s traditional HomeBase Skate Shop Chili Pepper Eating Contest, which ended in a tie after two brave souls took on the challenge of eating two Carolina Reaper peppers back to back.
Congratulations to the winning restaurants, and to our community partners at SouthSide Arts District for making this year’s event one to remember!
