PHOTOS: Top Writer Series at True Music Room (Apr. 30)
Every Tuesday night, songwriters flock to Nashville’s True Music Room & Bar to take part in the Top Writer Series. They compete for a chance to advance to the series’ final showdown on June 22, where the winner will receive studio time with Battery Lane Music, tickets to see John Mayer, and more.
This past Tuesday’s installation — kicked off once again by the engaging country stylings of host Liv Charette — saw the competition heat up. A diverse array of eight songwriters spanning multiple genres showcased their best original material, certainly making for some difficult judges’ decisions.
In the end, it was soulful rocker and Chicago native Timothy Myles who was chosen as the week’s top songwriter. Myles’ dynamic presence and pop sensibilities stood out among an impressive field that also included the talents of locals artist Kiera Loveless (runner-up), Stephanie Nash, Marion Shaina, Mattfield Green, Pime Hernandez, Page Mackenzie, and Scott Voelkerding. Myles received a $25 True Music Room gift card and, of course, a slot in the Top Writer Series Showdown on June 22.
After the contest portion of the evening, those in attendance were treated to a Top Writer Round featuring a foursome of Nashville’s most noteworthy up-and-coming female singer-songwriters, including Sarah Spencer, Tori Morgan, Caroline Marquard, and Chelsea Burns.
