Emily Chambers Celebrates Friendship on ‘Girlfriend Like You’

Emily Chambers knows the challenge of meeting new people when you venture to a strange, new place. So, she released a song celebrating the tribe she’s found.
“Girlfriend Like You” was inspired by the Vancouver native’s move to Nashville, and the often-frightening step of being away from those you have known and loved for so long.
“When I first moved to Nashville, I had a really hard time making girlfriends. I missed my mom and sister and the badass women I had back home,” Chambers recalls. “I started asking myself, ‘What makes a good girlfriend?’ hoping I could manifest some. ‘Girlfriend Like You’ rolled off of my tongue and into my notebook in 20 minutes.”
Sonically, “Girlfriend Like You” is a bright pop song; one which lets Chambers’ jazzy vocal shine over an instrumental that is cheerfully reminiscent of the empowering, female-fronted pop that put acts like Wilson Phillips on the map.
