LISTEN: Kendal Conrad Returns with Powerful ‘Bodyguard’
It’s been a little while since we’ve checked in with Kendal Conrad. Rest assured, though, that she has been hard at work on new music.
On Friday, we were treated to a taste of the Pennsylvania native’s forthcoming EP with “Bodyguard.” The ballad’s dramatic pop-soul backdrop and the power in Conrad’s voice makes this one a bona-fide showstopper, drawing influence from one of the singer’s biggest inspirations in Whitney Houston (who, among countless other reasons, is fondly remembered for this legendary tune from The Bodyguard soundtrack).
Thematically, Conrad uses “Bodyguard” to dissect her disappointment in a lover who, through his own self-serving actions, failed to protect her heart. “Bodyguard” paints a portrait of dejection and vulnerability, and serves as a cathartic expression of mistrust toward the very person who had sworn to keep her safe.
This right here is a big one! Check out “Bodyguard” below.
