The Quinn’s Daily Spinn: Friday, Sept. 18

We just became aware of Seint Monet, the alt-pop project of New Jersey native Colleen O’Donnell.

We’re glad we did, because it happened just in time for the release of her new single, “What Does It Mean,” which hit streaming platforms yesterday. The song was written about three years ago, in O’Donnell’s own words, about a love that once seemed unattainable.

“I was convinced that a stranger was ‘the one,’ despite the fact that we barely knew each other,” she said. “Looking back, it makes me laugh to think about how I put this guy on a pedestal. The entire experience inspired me to write this song.”

“What Does It Mean” was co-written and produced with Mike Malchicoff in Los Angeles, who has worked with the likes of King Princess, Troye Sivan, and Kanye West. Malchicoff’s slick future pop production adds a modern, multi-layered touch to the jazz-influenced ballad, which features a sweetly-sung and vulnerable vocal that makes the listener believe in everlasting love.

“I flew out to LA back in February to work with him, and am so glad I got the opportunity before the pandemic, because he brought this song to life,” O’Donnell said.
