The Quinn’s Daily Spinn: Tuesday, Sept. 22

Who’s in the mood for some “Strawberry Milkshakes?”
That’s the title of the latest single from pop songstress Ali Henderson, who released it to the world this past Friday. Produced by John the Dropout, “Strawberry Milkshakes” is a chill, simple end-of-summer jam inspired by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“I love to go out, dance with my friends, act crazy, and do it all over again. I love being around people, but that stopped,” Henderson said. “I live alone, I’m single, my family is a few states away, and I work from home, so I was really lonely. Truly, the first time I’ve ever been alone.”
She continued, “There was a point when I realized, ‘we have no clue how long this will last, or how long you’re going to be alone… so you need to get comfortable with yourself.’ So, I did.”
Henderson notes that quarantine has led her to an enriching period of self-discovery, telling UMC that she has enjoyed the opportunity to create a vision board, and even stay up making food at odd hours of the night.
“Strawberry milkshakes were my 4 a.m. poison of choice.”
“Strawberry Milkshakes” is here to teach us that, within the varying degrees of isolation we’ve all experienced, there is room to find appreciation for our true selves.
“In a nutshell, this song represents growing into yourself — learning what it means to love yourself, and getting comfortable in your own skin,” Henderson said. “Being unphased by other people’s bullshit, and being unapologetically happy that you’re figuring out who you are.”
