It’s a simple, yet powerful message, executed in this collaboration with Omar Gusmao. Gusmao wrote and arranged the music and produced the song, while Jakey H. handled the lyrics, melody, and vocals.
“[Omar] cares deeply about music, and his passion really comes through, as well as his top-notch musicianship,” said Jakey H. “Also, a big shoutout to Kevin Kapler, who is a phenomenal drummer and brought this track to a whole new level with his contribution. It was a total game-changer.”
But those two aren’t the only special guests to contribute their skills. There’s something else very special about this recording.
At the start of the pandemic, Jakey moved back to the East Coast from Los Angeles to quarantine with family.
“I had always imagined gang vocals for the chorus. The only problem was I was in quarantine in the middle of a pandemic, in the middle of nowhere, up in the woods of Connecticut.”
But, a rare family gathering came at the perfect time. Jakey’s mother, brothers, and sisters-in law all joined in to provide the gang vocals.
“That vision became a reality in the best way possible, when I realized the gang vocal for this song would consist of the people I love the most,” he said. “It was such a special experience, coaching each of them through the process, which was the first time some of them had ever been recorded. By the end of it, I had a big, full choir of my family on this positive and uplifting song about facing your fears and living your best life. It was a really special bonding moment, and I’m so happy to have it immortalized on this track.”
