Katie Basden Comes Out Swinging With ‘It Kills Me’

A well-known Nashville powerhouse, Katie Basden has been impressing us for quite some time. In between her 2015 debut project, Release the Sound, and her latest singles from 2019, Katie was a Top 20 contestant on Season 10 of NBC’s The Voice. Through it all, she has proven herself nationally as a prominent songwriter and vocalist, time and time again.
Now, in her first release of the year, Katie has come out swinging with “It Kills Me.” Through a veil of distortion, Katie tells the tale of a one-sided love. You can feel the frustration digging deeper and deeper with every line, with her unrestricted vocals driving the point home with each chorus. Katie describes this song as “imperfect” and “honest,” which are the two keywords that make up all great blues rock records. “It Kills Me” has a particularly vintage feel to it, both in arrangement and form, but is presented with a tasteful modern twist.
Congratulations to Basden and her team for a fantastic record. Enjoy “It Kills Me” on Spotify. And, as a bonus, we’ve also included its “rugged music video about love, life, and death.” Catch it all below!
