Daily Spinn: Nora Tirrell Returns with ‘If I Didn’t Have You’

Much has happened since Nora Tirrell released her full length album, All These Words, in 2017. The Marblehead, MA native graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2018, and now resides in Nashville, where she is preparing to release her EP, Wherever I Am, in 2021.
On Friday, she released the first single from the new project — and her first new release since her debut album. “If I Didn’t Have You” is a folk-pop ballad that Tirrell calls “not your traditional love song.” The single, which Tirrell wrote in high school and rediscovered three years ago, encourages self-discovery on the way to true love.
“The song’s message is to not only be happy with someone else, but how to learn to be happy within yourself,” Tirrell said.
Tirrell workshopped the song, making a few tweaks along the way before taking it to Q Division Studio in Somerville, MA. There, she collaborated with her boyfriend and producer, Dan Hale, to bring “If I Didn’t Have You” into the world.
“This is my comeback,” Tirrell proclaims. “I haven’t released music since 2017, and this song encapsulates who I am as an artist today.”
