Max Swan Embarks on a Solo Journey on ‘Leanin”

“Sometimes, I feel like I’m slippin’
More than the day before
If only we could stick together
I would stay upright for sure.”
When we travel parts of life’s journey by ourselves, we often create the space needed for change.
Through all seasons and conditions — and across cityscapes and countryside alike — Philadelphia-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Max Swan attempts to make sense of his journey with new visuals for “Leanin’,” which appears on his 2020 EP, Gone Away.
The video — whose accompanying single was written in four hours in “a near-feverish stream of consciousness at the height of the pandemic” — was directed by Chris White, who utilizes footage from drone operator Mike Ryan. We are treated to breathtaking views of some of the Philly area’s best-known sites. These backdrops give Swan room to search — for his truest sense of self, and for ways to cope — while bringing a stark sense of loneliness and vulnerability to the viewer.
“Leanin'” serves as a bridge for Swan — one meant to “(close) the door on uncertainty, while ushering us into a new era of healing” that will culminate in his forthcoming LP, Slow Jail, this September.
You’ll surely hear more about that one as it gets closer, but in the meantime, get lost in these “Leanin'” visuals!
