Songs You Should Hear… from Sunday’s NashLive! Lineup

We have a solid NashLive! show to look forward to this Sunday at The East Room, and we thought we’d use this week’s Songs You Should Hear to celebrate it.

Supersonic folk troubadour (and longtime friend of UMC) Ali Aslam is coming down from Brooklyn to join Nashville locals Mary Jennings and Pepperwood, and we’re pretty psyched about it. So psyched, that we’ve given you a preview of what’s to come this weekend. Enjoy!

Artist: Ali Aslam
Song: Wise Man and the Fool
Genre: Supersonic Folk
Why You Should Hear It: The first single from Aslam’s 2020 album, The Last American, combines an atmospheric alt-rock sensibility (akin to U2) with a narrative about the choices we make between ego and service, and the ripple effects we experience — for better or worse.

Artist: Mary Jennings
Song: Handstands in a Kiddie Pool
Genre: Indie pop
Why You Should Hear It: This multi-layered production features a pensive piano melody over a stormy, ambient pop soundscape that swirls with uncertainty, as our protagonist tries to find her way in the aftermath of heartache.

Artist: Pepperwood
Song: Growing Up
Genre: Rock/Alternative
Why You Should Hear It: The bouncy, youthful tone of Pepperwood’s debut single carries a certain existential heaviness; a world-weariness of a Millennial at a crossroads which makes us contemplate what we’re all really doing this for, anyway.

What do you think we should hear? You’re always welcome to let us know! And, if you’re an artist (or represent an artist), you can fill out one of these forms to put your music on our radar!
