Introducing our Underground Rising Initiative

At Underground Music Collective, we strive to develop an ecosystem that empowers independent creatives to pursue their passions.

We live by the phrase, “the rising tide raises all boats.” Our efforts will only go as far as they impact the community around us; therefore, we are focused on building a robust, collaborative, community-driven platform through our content, events, and outreach.

To realize our noble mission to its fullest potential, we need your support.

We are delighted to present our Underground Rising initiative. Beginning on Tuesday, November 29 (that’s Giving Tuesday!) and continuing through the end of 2022, we will share stories from within our community, highlighting the impact Underground Music Collective has had on the careers and lives of those who #GoUnderground.

We share these stories, so that you may feel encouraged to support our cause with a monetary donation, made tax-deductible via our fiscal sponsorship from The Arts & Business Council of Greater Nashville. Every dollar raised throughout our Underground Rising initiative will be invested into avenues that make our platform stronger, to ensure that the songs and stories from within our community have a greater opportunity to impact the masses.

Our fundraising goal? It’s $5,000 by January 1, 2023. If 200 people just like you donate $25 each, we’ll meet our goal.

By supporting Underground Music Collective, you find yourself in good company. Over the past year, esteemed national and global brands like Red Bull, Tennessee Titans, Redfin Real Estate, Universal Music Group (via °1824), and Creative Artists Agency (CAA) have recognized the value of UMC by leveraging our platform to build brand awareness, spotlight their events, and spread their messages.

Your support empowers us to develop our collaborative, community-driven ecosystem, and to provide meaningful opportunities to independent creatives – in Nashville, and anywhere else.

I hope that you will consider including Underground Music Collective in your charitable giving this holiday season. To make your contribution, please visit abcnashville.org/donations/umc.

Thank you for your support, and please have a safe and happy holiday season!

Yours in music,

Gerard T. Longo

Crowdfunding Spotlight: ‘Ten Year’ is ‘A Queer Story Not Just for Queer People’

We’re back with another Crowdfunding Spotlight — and this time, we’re taking a turn into the realm of musical theatre.

We had a chance to chat with Wesley King, a singer-songwriter and composer who, together with writing partner Jacob Heinz, is part of the creative force behind Ten Year. Ten Year is a musical which followed the journey of a gay man as he approaches his 10-year high school reunion, while addressing the feelings we all encounter when we come to a crossroads in life.

Crowdfunding Spotlight: With ‘Tarantula,’ Misty Dawn is Weaving an Empowering Story

The artist featured within our first-ever UMC Crowdfunding Spotlight is weaving a thoughtful and intricate web…

Misty Dawn is a singer-songwriter and entrepreneur with an extensive background in musical theatre and television. After spending a decade in New York City, The Texas native came to Nashville and developed a sound and style she calls “Show Country.” Misty draws influence from her vast and varied performing arts experience, while finding musical inspiration from jazz, showtunes, oldies, church hymns and — of course — classic country artists like Reba McEntire, Shania Twain, Kitty Wells, and Patsy Cline.

Misty has launched a crowdfunding campaign through February 14 (that’s Valentine’s Day!) for her upcoming project, Tarantula, an 8-song concept album tentatively set for release this fall. Tarantula will honor all of Misty’s influences — with a dash of soul and swing — as it walks the thematic tightrope between societal expectations and a woman’s pursuit of her dreams.
