It feels good to be alive today!
On this day six years ago, in the small, plucky former industrial city of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, a regional music blog was born. It was called Lehigh Valley Underground, and it would go on to cover some cool festivals, win some local awards, and become a pretty legit community resource.
Then, toward the end of 2018, LVU changed its name, moved to Nashville, and became the Underground Music Collective you know and love today. The rest, as they say, is independent music history.
And, because we find ourselves in a celebratory mood on this sixth anniversary of Launch Day, it’s only fitting that we have a brand new UMC20 playlist for you. We’ve combed the depths of our submission form and inboxes, and we also decided to show some love to the artists on next Thursday’s Music on the Move showcase at Analog Nashville, just for fun.

In my previous article for Muze, I invited you to come along with me, as we walked through 10 New Year’s Resolutions for musicians to carry forward into 2022. It’s still January, which means that it’s still the New Year; therefore, it’s not too late to dissect these resolutions into further detail, and adopt them on our journeys forward.
Today, we’re going to take a closer look at our resolution on accountability. Don’t let its position at the bottom of the list fool you; a strong sense of accountability – to ourselves, and to those around us – is paramount to achieving our goals as musicians and creative professionals.
Keeping that in mind, here are some techniques you can employ to hold yourself accountable to your goals, as you strive to make 2022 your most successful year to date!
Imagination is the key to today’s Songs You Should Hear — whether that means re-imagining that which has already been given life, or imagining a new, harmonious direction for varying musical styles.
Jenna and I teamed up again to bring these your way. Let’s get to it!
Hear What You Should
Created and hosted by rising Americana/country artist Erin McLendon, Music on the Move (formerly Women on Fire) serves as a pivotal platform for local female musicians and entrepreneurs to share their talents.

Full disclosure: I try to avoid describing “this week’s UMC20” as having “something for everyone,” because truthfully, they all do. Every last one of ’em, to the best of our ability, will bring the variety, as well as the heat. Pointing it out seems cliche, at this point.
However… this week’s edition is particularly interesting, because of some of the genre-bending adventures you’ll be taking. Right in the middle of the playlist, we have some avant garde selections that are sure to intrigue.
With that said, we’ve got something for you, no matter your flavor. Go get yourself some!

Inspired by the difficult times we’ve all faced over the last couple years, The Minks‘ new single, “Lavender,” is a mantra; it’s encouragement to give yourself a little medicine and let it do its trick.

We start the 2022 chapter of The Quinn Spinn… with a solo mission!
The Quinn has been listening to a lot of podcasts lately, and was inspired by an episode of The School of Greatness with Lewis Howes featuring Tim Grover. Tim has coached some of the best and most successful professional athletes in the history of the world, and his philosophy on winning informs the conversation today. In fact, it might just inform your plan of attack for 2022.
Listening to Half Shadow’s avant garde musical stylings is the sonic version of looking through a kaleidoscope. Each piece of art presents unique, vibrant, and purposeful layers that dance together in one unified, magnificent tapestry.
