What It’s Like to Be a Woman in Music

On Monday, March 20, Music on the Move Studios will host its March showcase at The Basement East in Nashville. Hosted by Erin McLendon & The HellCats, this Women’s History Month showcase features performances Erin O’Dowd, Meg Rilley, Noelle McFarland, and Teagan Stewart, as well as pop-up shops from female-owned businesses.

The entire lineup joined The Quinn Spinn for a roundtable discussion about the showcase, and why it’s important for women in music to create their own opportunities. This one’s a deep dive!

Songs You Should Hear Before Tonight’s NashLive! Opening Night

Tonight, it’s all about opening night of our 2023 NashLive! Cobra Series at The Cobra Nashville.

Joining us in this endeavor — our first presented show of the year — will be a stellar lineup featuring ARREIS, Chelcie Jette, and Ria Barkr. Two of the three artists on the bill have released music and/or visuals today, meaning that we’re throwing a double release party for the ages.

Tickets are available here for $10, and it’s 21+ up to enter when doors open at 8 p.m.

If you’re in Nashville, you should come out. But, no matter where you are, you can get a sampling of the lineup with this week’s Songs You Should Hear!

What is Women’s Equality Day & Why it Matters

According to NPR, only 12.7 percent of songwriters and 2.8 percent of music producers were female in 2021.

This alarming statistic shows how far the music industry has to go to achieve true equality.

Today is Women’s Equality Day, and our good friend Erin McLendon (co-founder of Music on the Move Studios) shares why it is important for those in the music industry to acknowledge the continued battle for equal rights — for reasons that stretch far beyond music.

Get Erin’s thoughts on the Music on the Move blog, and don’t forget to get tickets to Music on the Move’s next showcase — featuring an all-female, all-LGBTQ+ lineup — at The East Room on August 31.
