Fall Preview 2017: It’s All About the Fests
We know it doesn’t feel much like it outside right now, but we assure you: according to our calendars, today is the first official day of fall. Summer is over, folks.
However, while the year’s prime time has seemingly come and gone, there’s still much to enjoy around the Lehigh Valley, including the continuation of a festival season that will continue until most of the leaves have fallen from the trees.
It all starts this weekend, and carries on through the season with plenty of the local music you crave. Let’s take a look!
30th Annual Celtic Classic and Highland Games
Dates: Sept. 22-24
Location: Historic Downtown Bethlehem
What You Need to Know: Each year, the Celtic Classic features some of the nation’s most acclaimed and popular Celtic performers, with 2017’s lineup set to include Blackwater, Burning Bridget Cleary, Calan, Seamus Kennedy, and many more. The festival also features Celtic fare, vendors, and a series of competitions, including the Haggis Bowl haggis eating contest, and the popular U.S. National Highland Games Championship.
Dates: Oct. 6-8, 13-15
Location: SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem
What You Need to Know: This year’s Oktoberfest boasts a particularly strong local music lineup, with local heavyweights Scott Marshall, Billy Bauer Band, Another Day Dawns, The Moondogs, and many more set to appear at varying points throughout the festival. Plus, you get to enjoy various “Oktoberfestivities” unique to the event, including the ever-popular Dachshund Races, Oktoberfest 5k, and the second year of the unique Hasselhoff-off.

Lehigh Valley Underground First Friday Concert Series
Dates: Oct. 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1
Location: SouthSide Arts District, Bethlehem
What You Need to Know: Yeah, we had to sneak in another reminder/cheap plug. But, with a lineup like this for October, can you blame us? We’ve also started working on our lineups for November and December, too. The best news there: If you’d like to try to jump on one of those as a performer, you still have time! Apply now!
Bacon Fest 2017
Dates: Nov. 4-5
Location: Centre Square, Easton
What You Need to Know: The lineup for this year’s festival… hasn’t been announced yet. However, if last year’s slate of performers is any indication, we have every reason to be confident that the folks at Bacon Fest will give us something good for our ears, as we celebrate nature’s candy in all of its glorious forms..
