Celtic Classic 2017: Seamus Kennedy and Syr
Friday night, the 30th Annual Celtic Classic kicked off in Historic Downtown Bethlehem. The weekend-long celebration of Celtic, food, apparel, and sport also features live music rooted in the traditions of the culture.
For something more on the traditional end, we first ventured to the Tavern in the Glen stage to check in with Seamus Kennedy, a perennial Celtic Classic performer whose traditional folk stylings remain popular with crowds and seem to pack tents wherever he goes. However, something about the nature of Kennedy’s performances, complete with sing-alongs and stories, provides the intimate atmosphere of a listening room, regardless of how many hundreds of people are in attendance.
From there, we marched over to the Grand Pavilion stage, where Columbia, SC’s Syr had just taken the stage to close out Night 1. The six-piece blends traditional Celtic folk songwriting with the groove and energy of heavier rock to create a sound and a live stage performance with mass appeal.
We plan to head out once again later this afternoon for some Day 2 action. Be sure to keep an eye on LVU throughout the weekend!
