Bathed in Blue: Talia Stewart’s ‘It’s Not Me, It’s You’

Fresh off the June release of her women’s empowerment call to action, “Look Ma No Hands,” California native Talia Stewart is back with something much darker this time around.

“It’s Not Me, It’s You” is a story of love’s downfall, courtesy of a cruel mistress without a human face. Stewart utilizes her signature, jazz-influenced vocal to express total anguish as she recalls watching a lover become broken down by mental illness, and the powerless feeling of being unable to help.

Sonically, the single’s sad tale is supported by a slow and deliberate trap beat underneath an ambient synth that is demonic in its presence. The true instrumental x-factor, however, lies in some downright heartbreaking guitar riffs that give additional potency to the track’s morose energy.
